'Smallville' Character Breaks Into DC Comic Universe

Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan is finally a part of the DC Comics Universe. The super reporter will make her comic-book debut in DC Comics’ Action Comics No. 893, according to TVGuide.com.

Chloe is the only main character on Smallville not based on the original Superman comic adventures. Nick Spencer, who wrote the story (art by R.B. Silva), had to make a few changes to Chloe’s Smallville roots.

"It's a pretty different continuity, which I think has always been the challenging part of bringing Chloe into the DC Comics Universe," Spencer says. "She's never existed in the comics before, so in order to make a part of Clark's life when he was a teenager in Smallville, you'd have to do it somewhat retroactively, and it would age Chloe as a character a lot, since Superman is well past that part of his life in the books."

Chloe, who married Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen on the TV series, will have a history with the comic book version of Jimmy. "She and Jimmy have a previous relationship and that causes him to embark on a huge adventure that takes him across space and alternate realities to prove something to himself and her," says Spencer.

Allison Mack, who plays Chloe on Smallville, will only appear in five episodes of the final season, but other than Tom Welling, Mack is the only series regular to be in all ten seasons of The CW series.

Smallville premieres this Friday, September 24 at 8/7c and keep an eye out for Action Comics No. 893 on stands September 29.
